The city of Steyr in northern Austria has been known for the production of firearms since the mid 16th century. Formally founded in 1867, Steyr Arms built rifles for the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, but it wasn't until the 1970s that Steyr began manufacturing modern tactical rifles.
